We are looking forward to welcoming you to the 2026 Conference of the European Chapter of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT-E) at the Cordeliers Campus, Sorbonne University, Paris.
Although progress has been made in tackling tobacco across the world, there is much work left to do. In the Europe region, the tobacco epidemic continues to rage with around 1.1 million tobacco related deaths occurring each year. In Europe and worldwide, millions are affected by smoking related illnesses as well as the impact of buying tobacco on personal finances. The health impacts of tobacco use continue to weigh heavy on healthcare systems and economies, and there is also growing recognition of the detrimental effect of tobacco production on the environment. Whilst smoking prevalence is reducing in some populations overall, rates remain high in specific groups, and often the most vulnerable in society. Despite progress, the need to understand and tackle the challenges with nicotine and tobacco in Europe and across the world remains urgent.
This year's conference will bring together people from around 25 countries across Europe and beyond who share a commitment to tackling the devastating harms caused by tobacco use and of exploring key questions around novel nicotine products. Under the theme "Advancing the Tobacco Endgame: Science, Policy and Equity for a Healthier Future", we will explore the latest evidence spanning basic science, clinical research, public health and policy. We will meet some of the most difficult questions in the field respectfully and head on, including opening the conference with a debate on what the endgame should aim for – a smokefree generation only, or a smokefree and nicotine free generation. We hope this will be the start of important conversations across the conference.
We have had a record response to our call for abstracts for this meeting, and we are looking forward to an engaging programme reflecting the breadth and depth of current research in the field of nicotine and tobacco. Alongside outstanding keynote speakers, symposia, oral presentations and posters, there will be many opportunities for networking and building new collaborations. We hope you will join us for our evening reception at the Cordeliers Campus, conference dinner at Le Train Bleu at the Gare de Lyon and have time to explore Paris too. As one of Europe's centres of culture and science, Paris is a great location for exchanging ideas, challenging assumptions and building partnerships that will shape the future of nicotine and tobacco research.
Whether you are a long-standing member of the SRNT-E community or attending for the first time, we hope you will find the conference welcoming and rewarding.
Thank you for being part of our community and for the work you do to improve health through research, policy and practice.
See you in Paris!
