Regular abstract submissions for the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT)-Europe’s 2025 conference in Cluj-Napoca, Romania was open from 27 January, 2025 until 13th April 2025.

The SRNT-E 2025 Annual Meeting is shaping up to be a fantastic event! This meeting will be an in-person only event, at the historic Grand Hotel Napoca.

We encourage submission of abstracts describing cutting-edge research in nicotine and tobacco. The overarching theme of the 2025 SRNT-E conference is “Navigating Inequities in the Evolving Nicotine and Tobacco Landscape”. Abstracts should summarize empirical research findings that have not been published or presented elsewhere before the meeting. All abstracts will be evaluated on the basis of scientific merit by peer review.

Please note that employees of commercial tobacco manufacturers or their wholly or partially owned subsidiaries may not submit research for presentation at the SRNT Europe Meeting.

The SRNT-E Program Committee will make decisions regarding the acceptance of submissions with notifications being sent in early June.

Abstract Prize

A prize will be awarded at the SRNT-E 2025 conference for the highest scoring abstract.

Poster Prize

There will also be two poster prizes, judged by the keynote speakers. These will be:

  1. The Mateusz Zatoński poster prize for an early career researcher demonstrating research excellence. This poster prize is awarded in memory of Mateusz Zatoński who sadly died in January 2022. Mateusz was a highly talented and well-respected tobacco control and public health researcher, an exceptional colleague and a wonderful person.
  2. The best overall poster prize, open to presenters at all career stages.

Travel Awards

Four merit-based awards will be available to support participation in the SRNT-E 2025 conference in Romania.

  • Two will be awarded to SRNT-E members, with no restrictions on their location.
  • Two will be awarded to researchers from Europe specifically; it is not essential to be a current SRNT-E member to apply for these awards.

Across all the four awards, priority will be given to early career researchers (i.e., those who are still studying or who received their highest degree after April 2018) and those predominantly currently working and living in low- and middle-income countries (as defined here).

The awards will include 1,000 Euros to cover travel and accommodation costs and free registration to the conference and conference dinner. Applicants must be presenting at the meeting (either oral or poster presentation).

How to apply

To apply, please submit a letter of motivation (maximum 500 words), a letter of recommendation from a professional colleague who is familiar with your work (maximum 500 words), a short curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages), and a copy of your submitted abstract to the SRNT-E Board (c/o Stephanie Klosterhalfen) via email (stephanie.klosterhalfen@med.uni-duesseldorf.de) by 17:00 CET (10 July 2025). Please write “SRNT-E 2025 Travel Award” in the subject header of the email message.

Note: as applicants will not be notified about the outcome of their application until after the early bird deadline for conference registration, we will honour the reduced registration fee for those applicants who apply for an early career travel award but who are unsuccessful. Successful applicants will receive free registration. Therefore, if you are applying for an early career travel award, please do not register for the conference until after you have been notified about the outcome of your travel award.
